We are bursting at the seams and adding more classrooms and offices to accommodate the growing number of students and faculty.

The new class of the School of Biblical Hebrew in Jerusalem began just a short while ago. Part of their training involves field trips to different biblical sites and all the teaching is conducted in Hebrew. “How long have they been here?” asked the local bus driver last week, listening to the students interacting with the material in Hebrew. “Only five weeks!” he exclaimed when he heard the answer. “How do they learn so fast?”

Master’s students are finishing their courses so that they can oversee multiple translation projects when they return to the field. A team of staff and master’s students are working on exegetical resources for the Deaf as so few currently exist. Others are learning to create oral translations for the 45% of the remaining languages without a Bible translation that do not have a written form.

One new student shares: “I have a burden on my heart, and I see this training as a solution to the challenge of translating biblical source languages into sign language to help raise the Deaf community out of the marginalization they experience in African societies. This work will help us equip the workers who are on the battlefield to win lost souls for God.”
